Federico Mirone

Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences – School of Agriculture, Environment and Bioenergy

I’m a PhD student with a strong interest in rice genetic improvement.
I graduated in Biotechnology for the Bioeconomy in September 2022, and since October of the same year, I have been enrolled in the PhD program in Agriculture, Environment and Bioenergy at the University of Milan.
Currently, my research focuses on breeding for resistance to biotic stress, particularly against Magnaporthe oryzae, using both molecular approaches — such as Marker-Assisted Backcrossing (MABC) and genome editing — and traditional methods, including the pedigree method and Single Seed Descent (SSD) selection.
I am also co-founder of EBi Plant Genetics, an academic spin-off of the University of Milan.
