Applied research for breeding Italian rice
Italian rice varieties are well adapted to local growing conditions, produce high-quality grains, and are highly regarded by consumers worldwide. To consistently maintain and enhance these agronomic and quality standards, fostering genetic innovation is essential. A key focus of our research is to investigate the genetic foundation of important agronomic traits in Italian rice, including crop cycle duration, tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses, and overall yield. To this end, we have developed valuable genetic resources and molecular tools to translate this knowledge into the selection and development of improved varieties.
