Applied research for the genetic improvement of Italian rice
Italian rice varieties are well adapted to local growing conditions, produce high-quality grains, and are highly appreciated by consumers worldwide. To consistently maintain and enhance these high agronomic and quality standards, fostering genetic innovation is essential. A core part of our research is dedicated to studying the genetic basis of agronomic traits in Italian rice—from crop cycle duration to tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses, as well as yield. In this context, we have developed genetic resources and molecular tools to apply this knowledge in the selection and development of improved varieties.
